Dr. Kim Schrier Holds Rossi’s Feet to the Fire on Gun Safety

“Everything Rossi says about gun safety policy maintains the status quo – keep doing what we’re doing, look, review, but never make changes. Sounds exactly like what his friends at the NRA want him to say. Make no mistake, we know how he earned their support.” – Dr. Kim Schrier

Issaquah, WA, March 2, 2018— Dr. Kim Schrier, the leading Democrat running against Dino Rossi in Washington’s 8th Congressional District, issued the following statement in response to Dino Rossi’s interview with the Issaquah Reporter:

“Dino Rossi says the NRA didn’t actually hand him hard cash, they just spent hundreds of thousands to run ads telling people to vote for him. My question is: Dino, what did you do to earn such good friends?

“Only in Rossi’s political-insider world is $400,000 small enough to brush off. When you get millions in special interest support, maybe you lose perspective on what a lot of money is. As a mom, I know that $400,000 would fund active school training in a lot of public schools, taking an immediate step to protect our students’ lives.

“Everything Rossi says about gun safety policy maintains the status quo – keep doing what we’re doing, look, review, but never make changes. Sounds exactly like what his friends at the NRA want him to say. Make no mistake, we know how he earned their support.

“Waiting to see what gains traction in Congress before speaking up for what you believe in is the crassest sort of insider politics voters hate – and heartbreaking at a time when we see an opening for meaningful change. We all know Congress’s track record on this. Voters are looking for people who will get things done by shaking up the insider system in Washington, not someone whose life purpose is to join it.

“We all know why Rossi is in hiding, waiting for this latest national moment to blow over. Well, it won’t. Brave young students are leading the way to common-sense action, and if it doesn’t happen in this Congress, it will when I’m elected. Rossi is defending his NRA money so he can continue to take it and nod approvingly when they attack me on his behalf, just like they attacked Sen. Murray. But here’s the thing – he lost then, he’ll lose this time too.”
